55th Annual JUNE SPRINTS®

National Championship Road Races
June 24 - 27, 2010 at Road America - Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin

2010 – The 55th Consecutive Running – “It’s Not Just Another Race” ™

Dear Competitors:

Welcome to the 55th consecutive running of the WeatherTech® Chicago Region SCCA June Sprints®. As you have come to expect, our continual process improvements will provide you with an outstanding racing experience. All of the elements that make the Sprints a unique event will be in place again this year, including the fantastic and ever improving Road America facility, a strong contingency program, enthusiastic fans and intense competition.

A few things to remember and what you can expect for 2010:

  • There will be an Express Tech Service at Registration where teams and drivers can present their Log book and technical data sheet and receive their event tech sticker.
  • Any Annual Techs or the issuing of a new log book will require an appointment. To make arrangements, Please Contact Joe Griffin at (708)597-8299 or Email: joegriffin@att.net
  • There will be only two driver’s meetings; one each for open and closed wheel, to be held at the front of the paddock medical center.
  • All competitors will exit the pits at the far south end (toward turn 1) where the Black Flag Stewards are located;
  • It is the responsibility of all drivers to avoid physical contact between cars on the race track. This applies to bump drafting (including team mates,) no less than deliberate, hostile contact or any other contact between cars. We also expect you to exercise good judgment and show your fellow competitors the same respect you want to receive from them.
  • We expect you to contribute to disciplined starts. Our procedure is to begin the pace lap at pace speed until all cars have cleared the grid. In the case of a split start, each pace car group will be handled separately. The pace car will then pick up speed to help you establish sufficient separation to scrub tires and heat brakes on the track, not in pit lane. Between corner stations 11 and 12 the pace car will slow to final pace speed. At this point all scrubbing and heating will stop and you will get into line. The pace car lights will go out at station 13. Our goal is for everyone to be in perfect columns and rows with even separation traveling at the same speed until the green flag is displayed by the starter. There will be no pulling out of line for a better look at the starter, creeping acceleration prior to the start or lagging. These and other tactics are part of racing. You are not racing before the official start. If you have been judged to have balked or jumped the start a position penalty will be imposed.

Last year 8 Triple Crown® winners were honored. There are few career spotlight moments like winning a Triple Crown®. Just ask FV driver and Chicago Region member Mike Varacins.

Please consider discussing with your family and crew how you might volunteer a few hours of help. Please stop by registration and let them know you would like to help-they’ll be happy to find you something interesting and fun to do. All participants are entitled to a 10% discount on June Sprints merchandise offered throughout the paddock. Finally, all drivers, their crew, and family are welcome at our party Saturday night bash in the Road America Center.

Sincerely,
Mike Smith
Chief Steward
